The tag division basically seppuku'd itself. All the challengers have vanished from the scene. ReDragon, Santana/Ortiz, Bucks, FTR, Best Friends, Butcher/Blade, Private Party, Lucha Bros, The Gunns, Hardys, 2.0 and a bunch more have been out of the title picture

There was a point where the AEW tag division was stacked and easily the best tag division in the world because no one else gave a fuck about their tag division. Then Tony Khan then had the brilliant idea to break up several of their most over tag teams at the same time and then create a new 6-man belt to cannibalize the remaining tag teams. They were gifted a white-hot homegrown team in the Acclaimed and completely failed to capitalize on their momentum. FTR was one of the biggest merch selling acts in the company in 2022 and Tony's response was to completely change his booking philosophy to avoid giving them a title shot until they cooled off and started having go away heat from Dax being a schizo. He wouldn't put the Briscoes on TV until one of them died and pretended it was because WBD cared about some shit Jay tweeted in 2013 like half the roster hasn't said worse.
