Part of Adam Cole's motivation has been making MJF accept matches he otherwise wouldn't have. He made him have 2 matches at All In and one at All Out the next week when MJF was on that Roman Reigns schedule. He even got him to accept a match with Samoa Joe against his better judgement. I really believe the plot is Adam Cole humbling MJF and breaking him.

I was told that Kyle O'Reilly is finally ready to return to the ring. Bobby Fish was brought back shortly after Punk got fired. O'Reilly and Fish will win the ROH titles with help from Adam Cole who is the devil. Roderick Strong will turn on Taven/Bennett and join Cole, O'Reilly, and Fish. This would have played out sooner if Cole hadn't got injured.

Pretty sure Tony wanted MJF and Cole to win the AEW tag titles but didn't want to commit to derailing the tag division with their storyline, so he just compromised and gave them the ROH titles thinking that it would have the same significance.
