same with anxiety depression ADD and many other mental illnesses
it is a checklist that you fill out with a therapist

I literally did it just to get free adderall and was shocked how easy it was. I *literally* just met the woman and got a checklist to take home. I met her two times, once to come in and ask for the test then once to turn it in. She read it and deemed I have ADHD and should be medicated with adderall. It's unreal. Where do you think I live? I live in "the rest" part of the world that no one talks about. It's like this everywhere. Psychiatry, fundamentally, is a series of checklists and surveys that someone ("doctor") tries to discern and fit into the prevailing pattern. Asking for a test = surefire diagnoses especially if you do it in good faith and actually "think" there's something wrong with you. If you answer questions thinking that, they're going to find it.

Getting an autism diagnosis here in the uk is difficult and most people are rejected. My son was recently diagnosed after a 6 year long battle which was rejected twice, despite agreeable evidence from specialists, teachers, GP, therapists, SEN workers, etc.
Only a small number of people who start the diagnostic here will end up with a positive diagnosis because there's financial implications that go with it.
I just quickly Googled it and 85% of requests for referral to committee are denied and of the 15% that get through, 70% are rejected.
