A girl I dated back in high school went through something similar. Her dad was a prominent guy in the community, had a good job, a family he loved with two kids. He was a church going guy, and by all appearances a pillar of the community, without any drama or anything else.
Then one day she came home and found him in the barn, having blown his own head off with a shotgun. And just having left himself there for his kids to find.
There was no suspicion around his death and his family never got any closure or answers.
Nobody knows why he did it. No skeletons were discovered in his closet.
