Is wwe 2k23 any good or just a rehash of the last one?

I bought 22 and it was good gameplay wise but lacking content imo(GM mode was barebones, rey showcase was nice since I like using rey's character because he has cool moves)

2K23 is a roster update + Wargames. And Universe mode is stable now. They have some wrestler attires locked behind the online stuff which I don´t participate on.

Buy fire pro wrestling.

It's different because of the graphics (pixelated), game play and it has a good gm mode

But buy a season pass or a dlc because if you want to download custom characters (like some wwe wrestlers from community creations) you will inadvertently download some characters whose moveset is locked behind a dlc so you won't be able to use them in gm mode (fire promoter)

Svr 11 had a great career mode. I played it for a very long time.

Svr 11 is still extremely underrated imo (i don't see a lot of people talking about it being good)

Hell yeah. I've been playing WWE 2k23 and occasionally get annoyed how some of the PS2 games got entrances right and this game doesn't. Also the fact that gameplay was a lot faster and better annoys me a lot more than the entrances. It shouldn't be that difficult to make a good wrestling game.

Did Shut Your Mouth have double title entrances? I recall having two titles with Undertaker in Season Mode where he has one around his neck and the second one around his waist during his entrance on the motorcycle.

those Jap animators were smoking that nefarious sorcerer pack when they did these animations. so much impact, so much visual style of each unique wrestler is accurately captured. Booker T's animations always come to mind, or The Rock's stunner sell where he rolls and flips over. the Billy Kidman shooting star actually looks like the Billy Kidman shooting star. the Kane flying clothesline looks like the Kane flying clothesline, so on and so on. mind boggling to me that these animations have NEVER been improved on.

Between the combo system and all the fucking move and reversal animations they have in the games the 2K guys got the sort of modern smark style down pretty well I think.

The game goes to shit when a match goes outside the ring or you try to play with something like a ladder because the weapons are a chore to interact with, they tweaked the physics one year and now it feels like dogshit

That's why it's so frustrating how now in 2k23 your opponent randomly rolls out of the ring every minute. Who's fucking idea was that? I get it's supposed to set up dives but when I'm playing Andre that doesn't really help.

It's not a bad game and if it would be my first wrestling game I probably would love it. But I played the shit out of smackdowm and svr games and compare 2K games to them and can't help but to keep noticing how I miss some stuff from earlier games. And there' some simple things that are off like Kane's pyros going off just a bit too late that annoys me way more than it should.

Technically no, but generally yes. You know how 2k lets you import custom logos and face textures and stuff? Fire Pro does too but they charge you extra for it. And you have to buy the DLC to use any creations that use custom logos (all the good ones).

Correct.

The AKI games just have a much better core than the Smackdown games, and it's a game's gameplay core that gives it longevity, not its gimmicks like being able to fight in the freeway and shit. That stuff is fun but it's not what makes a game great.

I'm not surprised that some people are nostalgic for the fluff over the gameplay though, I guess. It makes sense given the taste of some wrestling fans.

At least SVR had the RTWM that was MILES FUCKING AHEAD of 2k doing "muh throwback" shit for storylines because they can't come up with anything good anymore
RTWM in general was a great mode and you could unlock shit going different paths so it actually gave you a reason to play it more than once too
