I was really hoping he would be able to come to terms but perhaps Tanahashi becoming President wasn't something that would help resolve the issue at all, maybe Shibata felt it signaled the final end of his time in NJPW. Shibata and Tanahashi had difficulties as we all well know, as they led to some incredible fucking kino in the ring. I thought they had reconciled completely but you never know.
Shibata has to be bitter about how NJPW has treated him after he tried to show them he could still go, pulling the stunt with Narita at Wrestle Kingdom.
But at least he still gets to wrestle. He is legitimately one of the greats and deserves to retire on his own terms.
