I'm still disappointed that WWF didn't do more with the Funks when Vince brought them in '85 and parts of '86. I recall Terry and Dory teaming up, and their house show run facing Hogan and JYD. The crowds went crazy for it. There's footage of some of these shows on Peacock (MSG and Boston, I think).

I don't think they lasted more than a year there. Terry left and got replaced with the terrible imposter Jimmy Jack Funk, and the Dory/JJ team fell down the card and eventually out of the fed. Shame because Dory could still go and Terry had an amazing run with WCW in '89 so of course he could still go in '85 and '86.

Vince gonna Vince. He was running an entertainment company. On a national level, there were other guys who would put more asses in seats, and sell more action figures and t-shirts, even if they couldn't wrestle half as good.

Dory was definitely not all in on the more over-the-top promos that they had to cut in WWF. He often looked disinterested or even annoyed, but was happy with the payday. But Terry embraced it and his gimmick and style fit right in with the WWF at the time because Terry made the proper adjustments. And the crowds seemed to be into him as a heel. Terry would use that branding iron and crowds would go crazy. I know I loved watching that run, but I only saw it a few years ago. Still, footage we have shows that the Funks worked until Terry left. Dory was always being dragged along by Terry, and Jimmy Jack went too far into silliness and of course wasn't half the worker of either of them. I can only assume that Terry left because Vince refused to push him higher on the card and/or cut his singles run early while he was getting lots of heat, to pair him with Dory in a tag team.

I agree with you that it's bullshit, but I can't believe that Terry at least wasn't able to move merch or draw fans. From what I've seen, he managed to draw more heat than just about anyone in the WWF at that time

why does it feel so wrong to see people outside of wrestling talking about the von erichs so extensively because of this recent iron claw movie? shouldn't i be happy that their story is getting widespread acknowledgement?

On July 4th, 1982, WWF heavyweight champion Bob Backlund faced NWA worlds heavyweight championship Ric Flair in a champion vs champion match at the Omni. Unfortunately I don't believe any footage of the match exists as it was not televised nor recorded. Below is an interview leading into the event though.
