Look at the gif. We see this spot all the time now, always the other guy standing in place, holding his arms out to catch a guy that pointlessly performs an acrobat flip over the rope to what would be certain injury if he's not caught by his opponent.
I've been watching wrestling since the early 1980s. I've known it was a work for almost as long. And I'm an anti-smark.
