It has been theorized that Vince groomed Junior to take over wrestling and just didn't want to be around when it happened. It has also been rumored that during the Ali-Inoki talks, Vince started going to Japan more and took notice of the merchandising machines at play, making official toys and t-shirts and records, and the only way he could bring that to America was by being the boss. Whatever the truth is, I'm sure we'll never know because the person who knows doesn't like telling the truth when he doesn't have to.
