Ok admittedly I randomly found AEW in my country's programming a few nights ago and it showed Brodie Lee vs Andrade and it actually seemed based.

However you could say the same about other company's as well, that they have great workers.

Eaton was based and it's not hard to figure out why Cornette was so close to him.

Cornette was an outsider and was relentlessly bullied as a geek by the boys in the back until he got lumped up with Midnight and they took up for him.
Maybe it's because Eaton was such a legendarily nice guy but it's very clear that he shielded Cornette from being, you know, tormented to death by the Steiners or some shit
