I think Benoit was generally respected by everyone by this point regardless of whether you are a fan of that type of wrestler or not, which was an issue a few years prior when he won the WCW title.

Even better with crowd noise, they booed when Shawn stomped and broke into cheers when Benoit reversed.
The crowd was so bad that event but them trashing Goldberg vs Lesnar and cheering Benoit made up for it.

I have always been bothered about how submissions in wrestling need to be hooked in for minutes to get the other guy to tap
