I feel like most of the people who talk shit on AEW, here at least, but probably most of the people elsewhere too, want/wanted them to be much more successful than they are. Tony is just shit at his job and it's obvious that AEW will never break out of their self-imposed glass ceiling with him in charge. Sometimes the shows are okay, but MJF is another shitty decision on Tony's behalf and he's been a shit champ. Not MJF's fault really, guy is a wrestler so I expect him to run with it the best he can. But he's just comes off as a cringe indyshitter and the whole storyline with Cole before came off cringe as fuck just like the gay singing with Jericho shit and 1,000 other things. Makes AEW look and feel so third rate, along with a lot other shit. At the same time I wish AEW would get better but I don't see it happening.

Why does Raw feel more like Dynamite now? Why does the Paul Heyman influence on SmackDown feel stronger in 2023 than 2020 when he was booking Roman solo the whole reign? Because AEW proved you won't go broke catering to wrestling nerds if you don't overpay for them. As much flak as we gave him, Vince was smart to pay the boys like he did. You get bonuses on the gate, added money on the commercial roless that the manufacturer/sponsor pays for and royalties on the merch because you don't pay people on money you don't have.

Being a wrestler isn't just being an actor and a stuntman, it's also being a salesman. And your paycheck from WWE? That's your report card.
