people bought tickets because the advertised main event (when it was announced) was omega and okada in an IWGP title match. A pure ROH show in MSG would have been a "novelty". A pure ROH show in MSG wouldn't have drawn flies to shit.
It sold out because it was marketed as a big event with actual stakes featuring actual stars.

They came from NJPW. They want to go to a more match based promotion. WWE is a story based promotion. Different versions of wrestling exist. AEW is closer to NJPW than WWE. Why is this a thing? It makes perfect sense why they would go there.

You see in their mind, not overpaying for someone with a small amount of name value even if you didn't have any plans for them is a loss.
Because they don't think about having a show with cohesive ongoing story and characters that is planned out in advance, all they think about is shiny new toy. New debut. Consoomer NPC stuff, need that next dopamine hit from the debut then begun speculating on the next new guy.
It's how they like their wrestling too. ADHD driven. Do spot then get up and do next spot. No it doesn't need to feel real, that takes time, just do le hecking superkick or flippy shit to keep me entertained second by second. The faster the better, no holds, no submissions, just spot then spot then spot.
When they accidentally reveal their internal psychology like in this threads, it's fascinating to see. Burnt out dopamine receptors, ADHD driven, a brain formed on Vine and TikTok where 30 second videos are too long, constant demanding. It's sad really.
