AJPW is going all in on Nakajima right now, in the hopes that he can save them from the long slow death they have been experiencing. Having Regal's retarded son challenge is just putting a feather in his cap in the hopes that some day he could be worth the investment of time and resources. If Regal's retard son ever accidents his way up the card and AJPW fixes itself with these changes and actually gains broad mainstream appeal again this opens the possibility for a genuine partnership between the two promotions.
Having Hisashi Shinma give Nakajima his seal of approval and serving as Nakajima's second in last nights match wasn't just about Nakajima trying to larp as Inoki. Hisashi Shinma was Vince Sr, close personal friend. Hell Vince Sr made him the kayfabe president of WWF and he served in that role right before Jack Tunney. This honestly seems like Gaytch making a good faith effort to heal the break that Vince Jr made with the Japanese promotions.
