Is Goldust the most esoteric gimmick in a major promotion? That lasted beyond a few weeks anyway.

It can't be understated how weird he came off in 1995, especially since this was the peak of WWF's goofy "wrestling is my second job" gimmicks. I think the Pre-Attitude Era is a really fascinating time, watching WWF dipping their toe in the edginess they'd full embrace later on.

This is probably one of the most interesting gimmicks to come outta the pre-attitude era. Like, actually creative for 90s mainstream wrestling.

I would even go as far as to say this was one of the best characters of the time.

It felt like they were trying to recapture the shock value of the original character which just wasn't possible anymore because the entire reason Goldust shocking was due to how child friendly the WWF was at the time as well as the homosexuality scare in the early 90s.

This was probably one of the best gimmicks in the history or wrestling. Goldust's charisma, his entrance and theme, his promos, his ring ability.

I was in some of those audiences when he was peak and the arena used to just absolutely fucking explode when his theme started playing.
