>>12833306They've got to do something. Contracts are coming due, are they going to let guys like Orange, Darby, Swerve, Cesaro, Kingston, MJF, etc, walk after putting them all over TV for the last couple years? Or are they going to give them all huge raises? All those new contracts will consume a giant chunk of whatever TV rights increase they get from WBD. Continuing to rent out 18k arenas and selling 4k seats will eat up whatever's left. What's the plan moving forward?
Women's wrestling clips/promos get lots of views/engagement on social media -- Step 1 is getting people to engage with the product/performers/memes/etc on Social media, this step is rarely skipped. How else do you find out about AEW? Channel surfing among 300+ channels? -- Step 2 is getting people to tune into Dynamite/Rampage/Collision as background noise while doing chores, scrolling social media, etc. AEW is so preoccupied with Step 5, paying $50/mo for every PPV fans, that they ignore what it takes to accomplish the steps in-between and actually build the brand.
AEW TV shows are like 90% cake and 10% icing. The ratios are all fucked up. They don't have to go 30/70 like WWE, but 70/30 will still keep your die-hards around while bringing in 100s of 1000s of newcomers. Giving the women 5 full matches per week across 5 TV hours helps you accomplish that - giving more screen time to Jay Lethal or Action Spaghetti doesn't.
