Why is NXT giving everyone these New Generation-ass high concept gimmicks when nobody does that on the main roster? All the big stars on the main brands are just tough wrestler versions of themselves. They don’t have a weird arbitrary gimmick.

Weird jokey gimmicks like that work well with a small intimate crowd, especially because the crowd is the same people seeing the workers every week. Plus when you're a rookie it's probably easier to form some kind of character to connect with the crowd when its more outlandish, you can kind of disappear into the character before you are able to connect with the crowd with more pure work or infusing your own personality.

Once you get to the main roster and your gimmick is being a wrestler, you really need to be able to sell yourself to people on your own merit rather than a cartoon. These gimmicks make people comfortable with that
