The trick is to work a Dean Malenko gimmick where you do a lot and everything you do is something you do well. It's like a Mr. Perfect or Bret Hart gimmick but humble. Then combine that with a Mean Gene gimmick where you ask people about themselves instead of talking about yourself. (This is tricky. They will eventually say something that reminds you of you and you will want to talk about yourself. SAY ONE THING ABOUT IT AND ONE THING ONLY and let that transition into another question for them.)
If you do this enough, the people who still don't like you become the heels.

This is the true answer from locker room leader. I’ve ran this in every promotion I’ve ever worked and it got over every single time, and you always end up in stables/angles with the biggest needle movers. It gets a little boring and heel gimmicks are fun but this one is a sure thing.
