They've done the "serious" shit to death. That's why wrestling was at its lowest when the smarks hijacked shit and now WWE is increasing relevance again due to getting more and more out of that indie zone, so other companies are trying to shadow that.

Matches for the title.
Right now, every single match is to settle a personal difference. Boring as fuck, makes the title pointless.
If the title is the focal point, you can use personal differences to pad a PPV and motivate interference on TV. Happy booking, happy fans, happy days.
The WWE suffers from this as much as AEW does. Cody's the only guy there with a title chase. Why the fuck, in a company of more than 120 wrestlers, is he the only guy chasing a title.
