Being exclusive to cable TV is holding WWE's shows back. Young people don't have cable. Streaming is the future, and I hope that the rumors are true that Raw is moving to Amazon. It would be ideal if SmackDown would simulcast on USA as well as Peacock like they do with a lot of sporting events already.

What's the last cable show that became as gigantic in the zeitgeist as Stranger Things? It literally doesn't happen anymore. Everything is moving towards streaming. Cable will continue to exist, but it'll really just be for boomers. I think any content that's on cable TV will also be on streaming. Max added an optional add-on where you can pay extra and watch all the sports programming that's on the Turner cable channels. Peacock shows a lot of sports, Amazon has football games, Apple has baseball games. Bob Iger has been talking like ESPN is going to be offered as a streaming service, not just ESPN+ but the whole of ESPN networks. That's the direction things are heading.

Walking Dead was before Stranger Things. I wouldn't really count Game of Thrones because that's an HBO show and you could get it through streaming.

Everywhere I look online indicates that the number of houses with cable TV is now less than 50%, while the vast majority of households have an Amazon Prime membership. The cable TV number probably isn't including online alternatives to cable like Hulu + Live TV, or YouTube TV. So it's probably a little bit higher than what's reported, but it's still true that Amazon is in way more houses than cable, and Raw would be much more available to people on Prime than on USA.

Streaming WAS the future but now in order to watch all the media they want they have to have multiple subscriptions that people arent buying. Its why each company has merged and offered bundles. And now cable providers are offering their cable + X stream platform. Its all coming back full circle.

I would consider the major streaming services to be Netflix, Max, Disney+/Hulu, Peacock, Paramount+/Showtime, Amazon Prime, and AppleTV+

The first two are profitable already, and most of the others are expected to be profitable by next year. Prime and AppleTV+ don't talk about their numbers so much, but their business model is a little different, and it's more about getting people into the Amazon and Apple ecosystems rather than trying to make tons of money off the movies and shows themselves.

There are other more niche streaming services as well, but I think those are the big ones and they're all doing what they're supposed to.

A weekly show like Raw holds a ton of value from a streaming service. If you've been subscribed to a service for a couple of months and watched everything you wanted to see, you may unsubscribe. A weekly show like Raw has its fans who watch every single week. If the show was on Amazon, you'd be making sure that audience is always going to stick around.

Even if that was true (it's not), Amazon Prime isn't a streaming service. It's a shopping service with streaming as a bonus; so much more people have Prime than cable it's ridiculous.

I'd imagine there's a lot of people who would watch Raw now, but it's not worth paying for cable if that's all they're going to watch. I'm excited about the possibility of it moving away, and I'm sure SmackDown will follow in a few more years.
