>>12963814There's a big assumption here that the "buy sports at any cost" plan is working. The only successful streaming platform is Netflix, the one making no attempt to buy any of this stuff. Disney+ is losing so much money it's being restructured. Peacock just paid $110 million dollars to broadcast a single football game, they'll never make a cent off that. Amazon Prime Video is such a dog that it's single-handedly making the rest of Amazon Prime unprofitable.
The part they don't want to say out loud is everything but NFL, NBA, Nascar, and Wrestling is fucking dead in the ratings right now. Doesn't matter if we're talking streaming or broadcast, shows that used to be ratings juggernauts like South Park now do worse numbers than fucking AEW Collision. Which is why Meltzer/Tony sit there with a straight look on their face and say AEW is in a strong negotiating position. A "hit" on streaming is like 800,000 viewers. Reruns of iCarly and Spongebob were doing 10 million viewers a decade ago.
They can spend literally all the money they want, and tell themselves whatever they want to tell themselves, but the root of the problem is that the strongest demographic for media viewership is 18-55 year old men, and the media companies literally make nothing marketed to us other than Sports/Wrestling/Nascar. Too busy making "critically acclaimed limited series" that no one but reddit will watch, while we're watching 3 wrestling shows a week and arguing about which is the most shit.
