I use "ultra soft" toothbrushes exclusively because the harder bristle ones are just devastating for your gums long term. I too like brush really hard, and I'm able to do that using the ultra soft brushes. I also use ACT mouthwash and I've noticed that dramatically improved my gum health.
Specifically the one that has carnitine as an ingredient. Bodybuilders inject carnitine for faster tissue repair, and I feel like it had a similar effect on my gums just from rinsing. I got punched in the face and it really fucked up part of my gumline for a few months. Using that ACT mouthwash and doing my ultra soft brushing I healed my gum when I thought I was going to need a graft.
Keep experimenting and hopefully you find a system that works for you. Your dentist is probably just saying that for a reason to give you regular cleanings anyway lol.
