I genuinely love the style of production on XXX and can't stand the production style of his later albums
Also there's the fact that XXX consists largely of shit he wrote years ago when he was coming up. It's his "I just hit it big, this is my backlog album" with a bunch of songs he'd cut as demos years before. It's his best work, his Illmatic, and he's never equaled it and never will.
