WBD keeps the ad revenue, 5 minute tshirts keeps the merch money, bleacher report and WBD split their PPV money. They make money off their licensing deals which is a million dollars a week for 5 hours of TV. They spend over 20 million on their roster, leaving them with 30 million for all their other costs, non wrestler employees, actually putting on the shows, talent perks, interns to buy up unsold tickets and distribute them locally for free.
They just aren't built to be profitable.

AEW's deal has a degree of ad-splitting IIRC. It used to be more but when they restructured their deal in 2020 it went down in exchange for more direct cash.

Every single show. Imagine the cost to rent an arena and air the show. Even with WB giving them money per show they still arent breaking even with the gate. If you rent a 15-20k seat arena and only fill 2k you're still paying as much as you would if you fill 15k
