I actually liked them too but I was like 12 years old. Looking back DX promos are mostly pretty hard to watch and cringe. Although I think the 2006ish return of DX was more cringe and is what really soured me on them.

I think you are right in the sentiment of the best version but it is WWE revisionism to say they broke boundaries. Bret Hart, Stone Cold, ManKind, Taker, and the Rock broke the boundaries. DX had good merch. That’s about it.

I'll give you Bret (even though he absolutely hated the way the production was going and was against it) and Austin, but the rest are a massive stretch. They didn't have any backbone to push anything, they were just lapdogs who were told what to do and went with the flow.

But it was Shawn's Bad Blood promo that officially started the AE and coined the term and pissed off the network heavily. And then his antics during 1997-98 were outrageous that WWE were close to being canceled by USA if it wasn't for the increasing ratings as a result of it. To deny their massive role in creating the AE is retarded. There was no-one pushing the boundaries of what was known back then than coked up Shawn, not even Austin.

Yes, but you seem retarded enough not to get that. When the AE era was formed it was a product in which almost everything was allowed anyway. The boundaries being pushed prior to that were set in place because there were limits to what wrestlers could do, how they could act and who the product should be aimed at hence pushing the boundaries. What boundaries would the Taker/Mankind HIAC match do when Taker/Shawn's match was already a hardcore blood fest prior to that? Or Rocky saying 'bitch' when Austin did it prior in 1997?

I'm glad someone else here actually remembers right. The real revisionist history is thinking that Austin's "give me a hell yeah" routine was anywhere near as raunchy and outrageous as what Shawn was doing that fall. Shawn made people legit not want their kids to watch anymore.

Most importantly, Shawn knew when to get serious and sell a match. He'd do goofy shit, but then get serious when Austin came out.

The version without Shawn was much better. If the New Age Outlaws didn't get over, the whole thing was destined to be a disaster but they knocked it out the park and then some. Then they brought in Syxx who had a cult following from nWo and it became the best version of DX by far.

Shawn's dX was built around him, despite being such a wild card on tv he was still presented as being unstoppable, Shawn had everything. After he left DX just became cock jokes, which don't get me wrong were part of the original too, but it lands alot better when a soma'd out mess is delivering it before he goes on to have an incredible match.
