Vince tried for years to get the fans behind Roman Reigns. He didn't start getting full support till he actual became a cool heel. A known phenomena is that smarks can influence shows and crowds which is what happened with reigns. It only takes a certain percentage of the crowd to influence the rest of the crowd. If like 10-20% of the fans start booing Cody then the rest of the arena will catch on.

They stretched out the story too long and now it's not good anymore. Timing is everything.
