Back in the original Mr. McMahon's time, they were only a generation or two removed from people who still remembered the cruel facts of the barbaric world. People that fought indians pushing west, when you might get strung out on a trail and attacked by apaches, and end up with green shoots of wood smashed through your heels, hung upside down over a fire pit while they slowly roast your brains.
Women still remembered that they relied on men heavily in times of trouble, times of upset, times of war and social upheaval.
The fact is that we've (we being the first world) pretty much become a settled and safe society post WW2 where everyone is so used to being warm and having a full belly that nobody remembers that we're all just fucking monsters right under the thin veneer of civilization that will smash each other's heads in rather than have our families starve. And this sense of pervasive security and peace has made women get uppity and think they're our equals, that they're just as capable of hunting and gathering, of fighting battles, of running affairs of state, as the men are, and the men all started playing along with it rather than listening to them bitch.
The next time there is some kind of global catastrophe, famine or war, they'll be reminded of all of this.
If this status quo continues for much longer, you'll be able to knock over our global society with a feather we'll have become such strangers to struggle.
