Cody's original plan post WWE was taking over operations of RoH. He sat at every position at the company and learned how to do it himself, from production to booking to finance, and everything in-between. His goal was to make RoH big enough to compete against WWE to show them they fucked up by letting him go. He talked the company into letting him do All In, and then Khan entered the picture and everything pivoted. He took those skills to AEW and thought he was going to be the figurehead of the company while Tony sat back and just enjoyed the wrestling like Ted Turner, but Khan turned out to be a Vince mark and wanted to run the show himself as owner. That's what Cody's problem with AEW was, he prepared himself to be corporate management and and wanted to lead the company but got pushed to the side as talent over time and that isn't what he created AEW for.
