What gimmick? Triple H was already wearing the hats in DX. It was a popular style of hat. The only similarity is they have "The" in their nicknames. Shane Douglas barely had a gimmick

WWE has created a narrative for new fans that they were some plucky upstart underdog against WCW, but in actual fact they just stole tons of ideas from WCW and ECW when they got somewhat popular then presented it as mainstream.

WWF/WWE can rip shit off because they were dominant for years and have been for a long time. It's even worse now, you could swap the TNA and WWE rosters around and it wouldn't shfit the ratings significantly.
