Difference between him and Jannetty is that Melo can go and it's obvious that company and writers have his back. I think his gimmick is shit and he lacks charisma but instead of treating him like Vince treated Jannety, which was to get him out ASAP, they've taken care that what we are seeing: that Trick has the look, the height, the promo and hype beyond him, all that is still playing to his character and their interactions with Trick.
You can easily give him a heel turn and set him up for new stuff when needed and it'll be a story fans want to see unfold.
