I’d have had him as Cody’s mentor/support during the match to deal with any interference that’s guaranteed to be involved in a Roman match.
Cody does the smart thing and asks the Rock to watch his back whilst he deals with the wayward family

Having Cody there is what went wrong. Cody goes after Seth on RAW and Rock vs. Roman is a SEPERATE promo on SmackDown. PROBLEM SOLVED!

I have no idea what was going through Triple H's head with Cody being there and passing on Roman for reasons.

Everyone knew Rock was the elephant in the room and was getting his match with Roman. Cody just doesn’t have the same heft nor sway to replace Rock as a main event star. The whole approach has been shittily done and the injuries can’t excuse it. This was always the plan and they had no real way to clean their mess
