Retarded take. First off, Cody isn't a star. He's a mark darling, but remove him for a month off WWE and fans would have forgotten about him and moved on to the next thing. Second, Cody has nowhere to go - he has a rift with Tony, his ego won't allow him to work for TNA and NJPW is broke. And unlike Austin who was THE guy back in the day and was mainstream popular who was rich as fuck and could go on other ventures, Cody has no such opportunity. He's over in a very tiny bubble that is wrestling today and nobody is gonna offer him movies or shows on the basis of that.

Are you genuinely stupid? Austin was still THE guy of wrestling. Not just WWE but wrestling as a whole, even by 2002.

Austin was an established multi-time World Champion and has led WWE during its renaissance. Austin was already established by that time. Brock was a fucking rookie that Vince had a boner for. Austin wanted to do a program to put Lesnar over, but a random KOTR qualifier (remember, a tournament Austin already won), was genuine retardation for Austin to lose that.

Cody had to potentially politick against THE ROCK! You know? The second guy behind Austin? The first true wrestler to make it fully in Hollywood? That Rock? No matter what, WWE would've rather dropped Cody for Rock.
