So what's supposed to be wrong with AEW again?

don't care, I'm talking about the quality of the show. This recent streak of episodes has been good imo, and I genuinely thought AEW was dogshit for a lot of last year

AEW is great it just needs a better main event scene/narrative because MJF's whole thing slowly fell apart due to multiple injuries and they haven't built it back up yet. TK is clearly cooking something with Swerve/Hangman/Joe.

The attendance does hurt the show desu. I like when the show looks lively and you can see most of the arena. When they dim the lights it looks kinda sad.

I know that’s old school and how it’s done in Japan even with packed crowds, but I don’t like it. It’s why I loved WCW 1997 production so much.

The angles just aren't interesting. The Devil stuff had some buzz but with MJF, Cole, and possibly Wardlow injured, they're just treading water. Hangman/Swerve has been decent but is starting to drag. BCC/CMLL guys might have good matches but I don't know the CMLL guys so it's a little tough to care. The tag division feels stale as fuck along with the trios

I just can't get into a secondary promotion. I can't watch wrestlers earnestly talk about the "world title" and storyline issues like any of it actually matters when its the minor leagues in front of 500 fans. It works when it's a small promotion in small venues that its own underground fight club type feel, Lucha Underground was really good for this, ECW did this, etc. And it works in completely separate markets like Japan where NJPW feels like its own separate world.

But I just can't get invested in dramatic WWE-lite storylines and convince myself that any of it actually matters when it doesn't. WWE is the superbowl of American wrestling so it feels completely farcical when a small time promotion books itself with superbowl-level drama and acts like its grand prize matters.

Can you tell me 1 form of storytelling from the last Dynamite or Collision that doesn't get used in almost every wrestling match? Working on an injury for example, that's just a common way to defeat your opponent not an actual story.

Jericho has been feuding with Don Callis for months. Takeshita directly interfered in Jericho's tag title match.

They did an angle last week where Moxley taunted the CMLL guys so they all jumped him, then they did a match tonight where Bryan wrestled one of the CMLL guys.
>Swerve vs. Hangman
They both want the title, so they're wrestling for the title shot. Also they hate each other and have feuded for months.
>Darby and Sting vs. Ricky and Big Bill
Darby and Sting are undefeated as a tag team, Darby wants Sting to win a championship before he retires.

Frankly, I WISH they did more matches that were just "this is a cool match, so we're doing it.", it would probably lead to more interesting shows.
