>>13283711Vice did a documentary on Stardom a bunch of years back and one of the interviewers got Mayu to talk about it a little bit, but it was pretty vague. The Japanese internet started to swirl some really ugly rumors so Mayu came out with an instagram story where clarified it a bit more. Basically Mine is a very small town and Mayu was a bit of a troublemaker. When she was 13 year old two men from the town who had relatively important positions in the community attacked her on her way home from school. She went to the police and the men were arrested, but the police made all the details public. Because the town was so small, because the men had such high status in the community, and because of Mayu's reputation as a troublemaker the people in the town started to gossip about her. Basically saying stuff like she was a slut, asking for it, and how she had deserved to get raped. It caused her family a lot of trouble because they were pretty poor, and so Mayu spent the next several years as a shut in and wouldn't leave her room. Eventually one of Mayu's younger brothers, who was a huge NJPW mark, made Mayu come out of her room and start watching wrestling with him. It became the only time she would leave her room during the day, and gradually Mayu fell in love with wrestling. When she turned 17 she decided to run away to Tokyo to see if she could try and become a wrestler. No one would take this skinny underage girl in and so she was living on the streets. Eventually she read about stardom, showed up asking for a job, and Rossy gave her a shot. He asked Yoshiko to take Mayu in and let her sleep in her apartment because he trusted Yoshiko not to bully or take advantage of Mayu. Mayu really heavily credits Rossy and Yoshiko with saving her life by giving her a place to stay, a purpose in life, and the emotional support she needed to get over the things that happened to her in her childhood.
