It draws on ELEMENTS of truth but distorts or exaggerates them- his father came from a working class blue collar background and drilled a lot of those sensibilities into him so he still identifies with it, he got saddled with dumb gimmicks, went away slumming it in some garbage indies holding the boom mic for Joey Ryan dick spots which to all intents and purposes is the wrestling equivalent of service-industry tier work, he brings up his family because that background and history matters to him.
His gimmick is the middle class son of a self made bluecollar boomer, who threw away his middle class lifestyle to start over from the bottom, learn it the hard way, and come up to the top right to make his dead dad proud, and then they exaggerate that.
And fucking lmao on his looks/physique- he's not huge but he's bigger than a lot of modern wrestlers, and he's not a supermodel but he's definitely not some average looking guy on the street. Take public transport to work, THOSE are average, they're goblins by comparison.
