The story could've been much shorter had they cut out all of that useless filler fight stuff but then it wouldn't be a shonen any more since they only care about the fights.

Pre time skip created a manga that took out everything that I fucking hate about shonen manga only for all of that boring shonen bullshit to take center stage in post time skip. The fights don't even have interesting climaxes any more because he'll literally just beat people now by learning a new powerful move whereas back then Luffy had to Batman his shit & improvise. The power creep is one of the worst aspects about shonen. I love the world building & conspiracy shit from One Piece & is the main reason why I still keep tabs on it but I stopped reading it a long ass time ago after the Marineford Arc. It really should've been the finale. Instead of just Disc 1 lol.
I've always been more into anime like Gunsmith Cats/Riding Bean, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop where the story takes center stage, could easily be translated into a live action movie, and the fights are over in less than a minute but the violence is so fucking brutal that it stays in your mind for decades after witnessing the brutality.
Shonen shit, I just can't get into at all because everything revolves around these huge wrestling style fights that never fucking end and it completely ruins the pacing of the story.
I like wrestling style shit if its Fist of the Northstar but even their fights are over relatively quick, because of how extremely gory & violent their battles are.
