Irwin R. Schyster was an actual IRS agent tasked with investigating and auditing the World Wrestling Federation.
After mistakenly spending years poring over the results of the panda-friendly non-profit in the late 80s, Schyster realized he was ACTUALLY tasked by his higher ups with investigating the professional wrestling company owned by Vince McMahon.
Unfortunately, due to a change in Washington, George H. W. Bush did not share the same priorities as his predecessor and viewed it as less of a goal for the organization than it should have been.
And because wrestling is a VERY tight lipped community, without a clear federal mandate and the backing of the federal government, IRS knew he would have to go it alone.
He spent a couple of years trying to get the evidence to prove WWF wrestlers were not paying their fair share in taxes, primarily when undercover investigating the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. After all, how could Mr. Dibiase be known as the Million Dollar Man when, according to IRS records, he was making just under $150K a year at the time?
Add in a couple of suspicious write offs surrounding Koko B. Ware's parrots, Hacksaw Jim Duggan's 2x4s and the fact that it appeared WWF was not only flaunting international work laws by employing the British Bulldog but, apparently, hiring corrupt police officers on both the local (Big Bossman) and international (The Mounties) level and it was clear there was some sort of conspiracy afoot.
Schyster knew the best way to investigate the company was from within so he became a professional wrestler but, due to the corruption of President Jack Tunney, he was never allowed to get close enough to the WWF title scene to investigate fully.
This is why Vince McMahon was able to run such a corrupt organization for years.
Thank God WWE has since booted Vince McMahon and is now run under the watchful eye of the company's best and most trustworthy boss, the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.
