>Japan and Nazi Germany were in a super faction called the Axis back in the day (this was before New Japan was a thing, but a lot of their fans will know about it). They got a pretty big push for a while, largely thanks to Nazi Germany’s ace, Hitler, and his promo work, as well as the Japanese guys’ high risk offence.
But they jobbed to the Allies (another super faction) in the end. It’s a bit of a WWE Network situation too, where Stalin actually carried the feud for a long time, but they don’t like to reference that too much these days because of the unpleasantness. So Churchill, Roosevelt and Truman have kind of been pushed as the main protagonists and top babyfaces, while Stalin’s role has been underplayed. At the start of the feud there was a whole thing where Stalin looked like he was going to side with Hitler, but it was a bait and switch and he sided with the Allies.
Hitler vs. Stalin at Stalingrad ‘42 drew 1,900,000 deaths, but Meltzer didn’t even give it a rating. We shouldn’t expect better though. It didn’t happen in Japan, so I guess it wasn’t worth his time.
