They were full of no selling, bleeding and the only motivation for it was to win a tournament or something.
Once martial arts films started having story, they evolved into the mega box office hits of early Seagal, Van Damme and the like which killed off the Hong Kong style karate flicks and ushered in a decade of high grossing action films.
