But for now, WWE is the undisputed industry leader, and therefore set the standard in the cultural zeitgeist, at least in the USA, but in most nations worldwide too, if we're being honest. The industry is heavily influenced by WWE as a result, and let's not pretend otherwise.
Wrestling fans like me have been hoping for a true competitor to come along to challenge WWE and offer an alternative to at least temper that industry influence. AEW has been on a downward trend since launch and is now ice cold, something even Dave Meltzer admits despite hating WWE and having many friends in AEW.
We went through this same thing with TNA years ago. This is just history repeating itself. Tony has more of his daddy's money to spend than Dixie did, so AEW isn't in any danger but it's not growing either. It has carved out its niche and will go no higher. Nothing short of a bold change would fix it (for example, Tony needs to sign Brock Lesnar, who would bring in NEW fans, while Okada is only going to appeal to the current AEW fanbase so is not a needle mover).
