I think people would just be sad and leave. It will be a defeated fanbase, not a riled up one. There's no one left in the wings to face Roman and Cody losing again would just cement that only he will be accepted as beating Reigns. If they drag it out to Summerslam, then maybe it will work. Another year of Roman and Bloodline will just turn away a lot of the fans.

He shows up to fucking work, for one. Roman hasn't been a credible champion for at least 2 years because he defends his belt once every two months and never wins clean. Meanwhile, Roman takes weeks off at a time and just adds days to his reign while contributing very little to the actual product.

People didn't care about Cena either, fans were rejecting him from the start. Yet his path to the title was less off a struggle than Cody's. Same for Hogan but he proved his worth before even going to WWF. You push the top guys and let them win matches, simple and effective.

I could see them pulling the trigger on Cody losing again. At this point, there are so many world champions that having a main-eventer who never actually won the belt would make Cody a lot more memorable historically. Only problem is the need for a followup. They'd pretty much have to immediately start the Rock feud so that people don't feel like there's nothing worth tuning in for (I felt that after wrestlemania 39), but if they immediately go from Cody to the Rock, people will say they just had Cody main-event to placate fans and move forward with their original Roman vs. Rock plan.

They built him up for over a year since his loss at WM39 and he won the Royal Rumble twice only the 4th man to do so back to back. It would be a pretty shit to have him lose again after all of that. Cody already is the face of the company. He's consistently among the top merch sellers. They've not only put his face on the Video Game, they've based the entirety of the marketing of it on one of his promos. His segments on Raw are pretty consistently the highest rated quarters. There's not been a babyface as universally over as him since at least Daniel Bryan, if not earlier. He is the face of the company, regardless of whether or not you like it.
