In retrospect, the fact that Tony knew he was gonna get Ospreay soon but he still needed to have the Don Callis Family shit to justify the Kenny loss is incredible. Especially when, the moment Ospreay actually signs, he needs to come up with some gay bangerino "story" to walk it back.

It's even worse when you realize NJPW were telling a "you will surpass him" story with Ospreay being built up to Kenny.
Tony gets that narrative lay-up, KNOWS he's getting Ospreay which only makes it make more sense he'd put him over strong, clean and as the story was conveying, and STILL makes it a weird stable-oriented clusterfuck. He is being handed a complete chess board and tipping it over.
