Paul is more conscious about the image of WWE compared to Vince, and would not gain as much taking the future of AJPW and causing them to fold as he would having a working relationship with them. AJPW could always take a pay day to send their ace to work a short program with WWE. The WWE would look like it is part of a larger ecosystem instead of a predator monopoly. It would serve as good propaganda to the internet smarks, help rebuild WWE's name in Japan, and the WWE wouldn't be bogged down with a guy on payroll you aren't going to use all the time who doesn't even speak English.
Just seems smarter in the long term to lil bro AJPW and get what you can out of them without destroying them.
