Then imagine that you went to work for a company that strove to be the conduit for those ideals, only for it to turn out that the attempt to impliment your ideals resulted in everything falling apart. Then imagine if the place you left that was against your ideals suddenly had the one cancer that was preventing your voice from being at least recognized was gone for good, and all you had to do was compromise with yourself to be paid big money and have at least some of what you want done.
That is what Punk is feeling right now. The feeling that the right choice was to rip out the part of his soul that would idealogically never back down.
