>>13472805Gimmicks are dead because the social cohesion in America has erroded; in an era where everyone goes to the same stores, watches the same television, sees the same movies, and listens to the same music, there isn't much variety for people to pull from. Social circles are also mostly based around the same hobbies, which has proven a detriment to everything, but in this case specifically, wrestling.
Look at the Attitude Era; when high schools were filled with all types of stereotypes; jocks, preps, losers, nerds, goths, emos, etc.
And look at the wrestlers...
Stone Cold, a badass from Texas with that roughneck type flair.
Mankind, a deranged lunatic from god knows where that wears a mask and does creepy shit; also multiple personalities, so you got Dude Love and Cactus Jack
Scotty 2 Hotty/Grandmaster Jay were just wiggers.
Edge/Christian/Gangrel - literally started as vampires and transitioned into just goths.
Undertaker was also a macabre character, along with Kane.
The Oddities were freakshow outcasts that had ICP and South Park.
Hogan was a POS that evoked the Hollywood lifestyle that many working class hated.
Golddust. Literally Golddust
But look at it today..
>Roman Reigns - bad ass dude>LA Knight - bad ass dude with a catchphrase>Drew McIntyre - bad ass dude from Scotland>Gunther - bad ass dude from "Germany">Kevin Owens - bad ass dude from Canada>Cody Rhodes - bad ass dude but respectful>CM Punk - bad ass dude but liberal>Seth Rollins - bad ass dude but flamboyant>Damian Priest - bad ass dude but zesty>Finn Balor - bad ass dude but IrishThey all fit the same mold because society now all fits within the same mold.
