I told you guys for years that this was because heenan was accusing hogan of being a piece of shit for A DECADE leading up to this. it was part of his character. also hogan had already been turning leading up to this point so he had a reason to be suspicious

Bobby Heenan spent years talking shit about Hogan while doing commentary. Hogan was face, he was a heel commentator so he was always nipping at Hogan when he got the chance. His commentary during Bash at the Beach was exactly his shtick. It's only in hindsight that it looks like he read the script and is spoiling the reveal.

I actually kinda wish WCW would have played up the fact that The Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan and The Dungeon of Doom actually did succeed somewhat at destroying Hulkamania because Hogan's feud with the Giant was when he started wearing all black before disappearing for weeks only to come back and turn heel immediately
