I agree, just with a little less stalling from Punk. Him ending the streak would've been the ultimate rub that Brock didn't need. Him also losing to Rock and Brock in this same year while at the peak of his popularity was when I started to believe Vince had actually lost touch.

I think Brock did need that rub though, after coming back he went from jobbing to Cena to a 50/50 feud with HHH, and they got mileage out of Brock for the rest of the decade as the final boss

I think either Orton beats Taker years prior, or Brock at WM30, were the only two windows that really worked.

Seriously. People really don't understand CM Punk's case. Losing to Rock, Cena on TV (which was fine since Punk beat Cena every other time), Taker, and Brock at SummerSlam really made no sense and probably did contribute to his creative issues.

He should've beaten Brock, then Brock can beat Taker for all I care. Brock wasn't fully rehabilitated until he ended the streak anyway.

Brock was basically fucked from the HHH feud, and unfortunately Punk was 1B. Cena had to job to him the following year.

Losing to Cena in his first match was bad, but the HHH feud was fucking damaging because HHH is a terrible face who can't get sympathy, and has to be equally as badass, while not looking weak at all.
