The gimmick doesn't work if it's played straight though. That was the Vaudevillians. Sure they were doing comedy shit but they never broke the act. That was just them the way they were presented and the audience was meant to just play along. And they looked like retards for it because why would people look or act or talk that way? On the other hand that's exactly why Toni's gimmick actually does work. Because she's deranged and no one else is playing into her bullshit outside of Luther who's more of an accessory and Mariah who's clearly rubbing shoulders and setting up to take advantage of her. Aiden English as the Artiste in NXT at least on his own when he was doing the singing entrance wasn't quite what Toni's gimmick is. It's in a similar vein for sure but still different. Snobby, artsy people still existed in the 2010s like they do today. Also the Full Sail era of NXT where he did that gimmick was free to attend so he drew zero dimes
