His match with Taker was one of the last to feel like a leftover from the Attitude Era. The fucking chairshot is brutal. It's weird looking back that on SmackDown, he was relatively liked. Benoit and Taker, Shane Helms, all liked him. But then he goes to Raw and suddenly he's the worst prick ever.

Has anyone ever done this and succeeded?
I'm talking the typical first promo out of WWE, do the whole "they held me back!" and then go onto do anything of note?

TNA spent 2008-2016 bringing in whichever WWE guy just got fired to cut a THIS IS THE REAL ME promo in street clothes, make the entire show about them and then lose them after 6 months because they no showed or got a better deal somewhere else.

I was like 13 when he debuted on Smackdown. Didn't understand the appeal, still don't, but I did like that his gimmick is literally "I say my name twice for no reason". Perfectly stupid for wrestling. Boring otherwise.
As a Canadian, he was shoot exactly how I picture your average obnoxious American acts and looks. Mouth breathing hothead who just comes across below average intelligence. Visiting Chicago multiple times has proven me right.

I missed their peak. I got into them in 2010/early 2011 and by the end of those years Patrice and Greg Giraldo both died. Not that either had been on the show every single day or something, but that whole scene was ending. I will say that Joe Rogan had the potential to be an O&A in terms of actual comedic content but the LA scene sucks dick compared to what was going on in Boston and New York. I heard Cumtown was good but never bothered with it and now they're split up too.

My favorite spot he did is when he's on the outside and he yells to the crowd "GET OUT OF THE WAY" like he's going to throw his opponent into the crowd. Then he rolls them back into the ring. He only did it a few times but I'll never forget that.

It feels bad that Opie and Anthony aren't even on speaking terms anymore. They both kinda need each other and guys like Sam Hyde or a Shane Gillis would probably appear on an O&A reboot. Not even saying they'd be good guests but I think the heat has died down on both guys considerably.
