I think it's more a case of the people who get into wrestling heavily enough to do it as a job are getting less naturally athletic and smaller as time goes on because globalisation and technology make it way easier for gigachads to succeed in more lucrative jobs than wrestling - largely also due to the same cultural progress making pro wrestling less and less popular and the subsequent lack of viable stars accelerates the decline in pop culture which will be further reflected with worsening results.
